My Moonlight Hair UK hair topper review, which I purchased myself – not gifted, not sponsored, just me spending my own money because I wanted to try it. I tried to keep the video a bit shorter this time since I know I can ramble on quite a bit.

While I’m in here updating things, I should be honest about something. I’m not wearing this topper at the moment. I shaved my head. I’m in wigs right now while I grow my hair out properly and work through some scalp treatments, and I’ll be writing about all of that separately because it deserves its own space.
That decision had nothing to do with the topper, though. I still rate it. I’d still buy from her again. And if you want a hand-tied silk top from someone who actually wears them herself and will talk you through it properly before you spend four figures, she’s one of the good ones. (Her pieces sell out constantly, which tells you something.)

The piece I bought
It’s called the Virgo, listed as a dark brown virgin hair topper. The hair is virgin Brazilian Remy and it’s 21 inches at its longest.
It’s listed as a colour 3. I’d say it’s darker than that, closer to a 2. My own hair is around a 2 and side by side mine is only a touch darker than the piece, which for a first order without seeing it in person is about as close as you can hope for.
The hair itself is incredibly soft. It heat styles well and it washes well, which is the pair of things you actually need from human hair.
The cap size and the parting area are not the same number
This is the bit I’d want explained to me and nobody ever does it properly, so here it is.
The cap on this is 8×8. The silk section is 4×4. Six pressure-sensitive clips and a comb at the front.
Those two numbers do different jobs. The 8×8 is the footprint of the whole base, which is what has to cover your thinning area. The 4×4 is the hand-tied silk section, and that’s the bit that reads as scalp and that you can actually part within.
So you can move the parting wherever you like inside that 4×4 window, and not beyond it. I keep mine centre parted because that’s where the fringe sits.
Worth knowing when you’re comparing pieces, because a brand quoting one number isn’t necessarily quoting the same thing as the brand next to it.
It arrived already cut
This is the part that made the difference and it’s the opposite of how I’ve done every other piece.
Normally I buy a topper, put it on, decide it looks like a piece rather than hair, and then take it to my own stylist to be thinned and layered. With this one, it turned up pre-cut with layers and a fringe already in it.
The fringe is my favourite thing about it. No salon appointment, no extra cost on top, no wearing it in an in-between state for three weeks while I work out whether I’m brave enough to cut it.
What buying from a UK brand actually gets you
It arrived the next day.
Set that against my Highline, which came from the US, sat with DHL, and needed a three-figure import bill paid before they’d release it. Or my Lusta, which also carried customs on top. Neither of those is a criticism of those pieces, I love them both. But it’s a real cost and a real wait that simply doesn’t exist here.
It came in a black wig box with the brand sticker on the front, the piece nestled in tissue with the usual netting over it, plus a little travel comb and a scrunchie.

Mehtap wears toppers herself, and she offers face-to-face consultations in London as well as video ones if you can’t get there.
She’s one of the sweetest sellers I’ve dealt with and she gave me a genuine amount of help and support choosing this, which is not nothing when you’re about to spend a lot of money on something you can’t try on first. Compare that with sitting at midnight zooming into product photos and hoping, which is exactly how I bought my first one.
One thing to know before you go looking: as far as I’m aware she works in brunette tones only. Dark, medium and light browns, no blondes. That may well have changed since, so ask her rather than taking my word for it.

Look, whichever brand you go with, how you look after the thing matters more than where you bought it. A £1,200 silk top will still look like a dead badger in eight months if you wash it with whatever’s in the shower.
