Most of the time, I just put my moisturizer under my eyes. That’s it. I don’t own a special little pot, and I don’t do the ring-finger tapping thing either. I’ve always felt like eye cream is basically overpriced tiny tubes of moisturizer. (I even wrote in my seb derm directory that the whole “you need a separate eye cream” thing is mostly marketing.)
And then I went and started using retinol eye creams. K-beauty ones. And I’ve been enjoying them, which is annoying when you’ve been this smug about it for years.
The one I’m using up right now is the Numbuzin No.9. Back in June I called it the eye cream I was suffering through, because the packaging fought me every night and I’ve had an easier time getting into a pistachio. I kept going anyway, because the cream inside is good.
So here’s where I am at 43. Moisturizer is still fine for most days. But if something is going around my eyes, it should do a job my moisturizer can’t, like a retinoid that’s gentle enough for that thin skin. And it can’t have fragrance in it, because I have sensitive eyes. So I went through five Korean eye creams that keep coming up for the mature under-eye and read every ingredient list. If you want the rest of my routine, it’s in my Korean skincare for mature skin post.
At a glance
The best Korean eye cream for wrinkles depends on whether you want a retinoid. Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum has retinal. Numbuzin No.9 and Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Eye Cream have retinol. SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Bakuchiol Eye Cream uses bakuchiol instead. COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream has no retinoid at all. Beauty of Joseon says to avoid its retinal eye serum during pregnancy. All five are at LOOKFANTASTIC, where code LFTFNEVEEN takes up to 25% off, and at YesStyle, where my links have NEVEEN15 built in for an extra 2% to 5% off.

What I look for in an eye cream in my 40s
A retinoid, or a good reason not to have one. Retinol and retinal have the most evidence behind them for fine lines, and retinal is the faster-acting cousin. Both can sting, so the gentler picks still earn their place.
No fragrance. With sensitive eyes, this is the first thing I check.
Texture. Something light makes more sense under concealer in the morning. Richer can wait for night.
Oils, if you have seb derm or fungal acne. More on that further down.

This is the one that changed my mind about eye cream, at least a little. I stand by what I said in my June K-beauty faves: the packaging is fiddly and the cream is worth it.
What’s in it: retinol, niacinamide, ceramide NP, adenosine, hyaluronic acid and a long run of peptides (Numbuzin says 50). NAD+ is on the front, but the retinol is the ingredient with real evidence behind it, and it’s the reason I’d rebuy.
It’s a rich cream and it’s fragrance-free. It also has coconut, olive and macadamia oils, which matters if you’re fungal acne prone.
Good news for fellow pump-wrestlers: there’s now a Tube Type version listed, and its ingredient list shows retinal instead of retinol. If you’re new to retinoids, some retailers suggest starting 2-3 nights a week.
2. Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal

People Google this one by name, and SkinSort lists it as the most popular fragrance-free Korean eye moisturizer on their site.
Inside, it’s 10% ginseng root extract and 2% retinal liposome. Beauty of Joseon says plainly that the active retinal in that is 0.02%, which I appreciate. It also has niacinamide, adenosine, ceramide NP, hyaluronic acid and a peptide, palmitoyl tripeptide-5. It’s fragrance-free and 30ml, which is a lot of eye product.
Its a light, milky serum, so it’s the one on this list least likely to sit heavily in lines. Beauty of Joseon says you can use it on your eyelids with care, just not right up to the lash line. That’s handy if your lids are hooded like mine.
Beauty of Joseon says to avoid it during pregnancy because of the retinal. It also contains caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl alcohol, olivate emulsifiers and macadamia seed oil.
3. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Probio-Cica Bakuchiol Eye Cream

The pick for anyone whose eyes get angry with retinoids. SKIN1004’s centella ampoule is already on my Korean skincare for rosacea list, so the brand isn’t new to me.
What’s in it: bakuchiol at 5,000 ppm, which works out at 0.5%, plus centella and fermented centella, niacinamide, squalane, ceramide NP, hyaluronic acid and a peptide, acetyl hexapeptide-8. Bakuchiol is a plant ingredient that gets compared to retinol. The evidence for it is smaller, but it’s gentler, which is the whole point here.
No fragrance on this one either, and it’s 20ml. There’s shea butter, macadamia seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride and lauric acid, so FA-prone skin should check it first.
4. COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream

The no-retinoid pick, and the one I’d put under concealer.
Snail secretion filtrate is the very first ingredient, and there’s niacinamide and five peptides too, including copper tripeptide-1 and acetyl hexapeptide-8. COSRX’s own site says the snail is 73.6%, while LOOKFANTASTIC’s listing says 72%. It’s fragrance-free and comes in an airless pump. COSRX says it’s for morning and night.
This one is mostly about hydration. Since there’s no retinoid, there’s nothing to worry about wearing under makeup in the daytime.
For FA-prone skin: sunflower seed oil is fourth on the list, and palmitic, stearic and myristic acids are in there too.
5. Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Eye Cream

Medicube’s eye cream is all over TikTok. After Beauty of Joseon, it’s also the eye cream on this list people search for most, so here’s what’s in it.
What’s in it: retinol, which Medicube calls 99% purity, and PDRN from salmon DNA, which shows up on the label as sodium DNA. Niacinamide is fourth on the list. There are five peptides, including copper tripeptide-1 and acetyl hexapeptide-8, plus hyaluronic acid, adenosine, caffeine, coffee seed extract and turmeric root extract. Medicube describes it as light and non-sticky, and it’s 30ml.
The PDRN comes from salmon, so it isn’t vegan. There’s no “fragrance” or “parfum” on the list I checked, but there is mandarin orange peel extract, which I’d watch with sensitive eyes. It also has caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl alcohol and olivate emulsifiers.
PDRN is the trendy part, and the evidence for it in a cream is still thin (more on that just below).
Does a PDRN eye cream actually do anything?
I went into this assuming PDRN only works when a needle puts it into your skin. And yeah, that’s mostly true. Nearly all the research is on injections. PDRN is DNA, usually from salmon, which makes it a huge molecule, and huge molecules have a hard time getting through skin that’s in one piece.
But then I found one new study that tested it in an eye cream on real women, and I have to be fair about it. This July, researchers had 31 women aged 35 to 55, all with sensitive skin, use a 0.1% PDRN eye cream on one side of their face and a 0.1% retinol eye cream on the other, twice a day for four weeks. The PDRN side did better on crow’s feet, and neither side had reactions.
So is PDRN secretly amazing? I’m not ready to say that. It was four weeks, which is short. The researchers themselves say some of the change could be plumping from moisture. The proof that it got into human skin came from a test on one person. And it tested one specific type of PDRN, at a known size and strength, which you can’t assume is the PDRN in your jar.
For me, PDRN in a cream is a maybe-bonus. In the Medicube, I’d count the retinol and niacinamide as the parts doing the heavy lifting. If a study like this gets repeated with more people over months, I’ll happily change my mind.
PDRN is on my skin ingredient checker, in the anti-ageing tab, with this study as the source.
Retinol, retinal or no retinoid: which Korean eye cream I’d pick
I’m finishing the Numbuzin first, obviously (I’m not wasting a pistachio-level fight). After that, it depends on what your eyes can handle.
- You want a retinoid and a light texture: Beauty of Joseon.
- You want a retinoid plus a long list of extras: Medicube.
- Retinoids sting you: SKIN1004 and its bakuchiol.
- You just want your concealer to sit better: COSRX.
And if you’re like me and still half think eye cream is fancy moisturizer? You’re not wrong on a regular day. The retinoid ones are the exception. Whatever you choose, daily SPF matters more once a retinoid is in the mix, and my Korean sunscreen post covers the ones I’ve checked.
If you have seb derm or fungal acne around your eyes
Here’s what I found on each ingredient list:
- Numbuzin: coconut, olive and macadamia oils
- Beauty of Joseon: macadamia seed oil and caprylic/capric triglyceride
- SKIN1004: shea butter, macadamia seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride and lauric acid
- COSRX: sunflower seed oil
- Medicube: caprylic/capric triglyceride, olivate emulsifiers and sorbitan oleate
If every one of those makes you nervous, look at the mixsoon Bean Eye Cream instead. I couldn’t find a plant oil on the full list I checked, and mixsoon says it’s fragrance-free. It has no retinoid, so think of it as a gentle hydrator. It does contain cetearyl alcohol.
Whichever one you’re eyeing, paste the list from your box into my skin ingredient checker. It flags fungal acne, seb derm and rosacea triggers in seconds.

FAQs
What is the best Korean eye cream for wrinkles?
If you want a retinoid, the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum. It has retinal and it’s fragrance-free. The brand also says it can go on your eyelids with care, which helps if yours are hooded. If retinoids irritate you, try the SKIN1004 Bakuchiol Eye Cream instead.
Is eye cream just moisturizer?
A lot of the time, honestly, yes. That’s why I mostly use my moisturizer under my eyes. The exceptions are eye creams with a retinoid made for thin eye skin, which your face cream usually doesn’t have.
Is the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum good for mature skin?
It’s built for fine lines, with 10% ginseng root extract and 2% retinal liposome, which the brand says is 0.02% active retinal. It’s a light, milky serum, so it’s less likely to sit heavily in lines. Skip it if you’re pregnant, which the brand says too.
What’s in the Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Eye Cream?
Retinol, salmon-derived PDRN listed as sodium DNA, niacinamide, five peptides, hyaluronic acid, caffeine and turmeric root extract. It’s light and non-sticky, and there’s no fragrance on the list, but it does contain mandarin orange peel extract.
Does topical PDRN work, or only injections?
Most of the evidence is from injections. One 2026 study found a 0.1% PDRN eye cream improved crow’s feet more than a 0.1% retinol cream over four weeks, but the study was short and small, and it only tested one specific type of PDRN. For now, I’d file topical PDRN under promising.
Is bakuchiol as good as retinol for eyes?
It has less research behind it than retinol, but it’s gentler. That’s why I’d pick the SKIN1004 if retinoids sting or dry you out.
Can you use a retinol eye cream every night?
A lot of people build up to it. Some retailers of the Numbuzin suggest starting 2-3 nights a week. Wear SPF in the daytime either way.
