Uniwigs Courtney Hair Topper: Unboxing and First Impressions

My Uniwigs Courtney hair topper review. I’d been watching this one for a while – it kept appearing in threads whenever someone asked about budget-friendly human hair toppers that didn’t look budget-friendly, and I was curious whether it could actually deliver on that. Spoiler: mostly yes, with a few caveats.

About the Uniwigs Courtney

The Courtney sits at the more accessible end of the Uniwigs range price-wise, which is part of why it comes up so often when people are just starting out with toppers and don’t want to spend a fortune on their first piece. It’s a solid entry point for seeing whether a hair topper works for your hair loss before you invest in something higher-end.

Here’s the bit that actually explains the price, and I don’t think anybody spells it out properly. The Courtney does have a mono top – so you get that realistic scalp look where the hair looks like it’s growing out of your head. But it’s a middle-only parting with a wefted back. You can’t move the part around. That’s the trade. On something like the Claire you can part it wherever you feel like that morning, and that flexibility is a big chunk of what you’re paying extra for.

Which matters less than it sounds, honestly, if you’re a middle-part person anyway (I mostly am). And you can cheat it a little – clip it in slightly off-center and you get a soft side-part out of it. Not a true side part. But enough.

First impressions straight out of the box

Everything in the video and the photos is the topper with zero customisation. No cutting, no thinning, no taking it to anyone. Straight out of the packaging and onto my head, which is not usually how you’d wear a piece long term but it’s the only honest way to show you what you’re actually buying.

It’s low density and light-weight, and I liked it immediately for that. A heavy topper announces itself all day. This one doesn’t. If you’ve been putting off trying a topper because you’re picturing something hot and dense sitting on your scalp, this is not that.

One thing you’ll spot in the photos that has nothing to do with Uniwigs: the ends of my own hair still had that faded ombre from years back. I kept meaning to just cut it off as it grew. My hair grows at a snail’s pace these days, so that plan went about as well as you’d expect.

The exact piece I’m wearing

  • Piece: 7″ x 8″ Courtney, mono part, middle part, Remy human hair topper
  • Color: 211 Espresso Brown
  • Length: 16″
  • Density: 130%

I’ve also reviewed the Uniwigs Claire and the Uniwigs Melanie if you want to compare across the range and figure out which suits your situation best. And if you haven’t measured your hair loss area yet, do that before you order anything – getting the base size wrong is the most common and most expensive mistake.

FAQ

Is the Uniwigs Courtney a good budget hair topper?

Yes, mostly. The Courtney comes up regularly when people ask about affordable human hair toppers that still look good. It delivers on that promise for the most part, though as with any budget-range piece there are some trade-offs compared to Uniwigs’ higher-end options like the Claire.

What is the difference between the Uniwigs Courtney and Claire?

Both pieces have a mono top, so both give a realistic scalp appearance. The difference is the parting. The Courtney is middle-part only with a wefted back, so the parting cannot be moved. The Claire allows multi-directional parting, which is the main reason it sits higher in the range and costs more. If you wear a middle part anyway, the Courtney gives you a mono top for less.

Does the Uniwigs Courtney have a mono top?

Yes. The Courtney has a mono part top with a middle parting and a wefted back. The mono section gives the look of hair growing from the scalp, but the parting is fixed in the middle and cannot be moved to the side. Clipping the topper on slightly off-center creates a soft side part, though not a true one.

What is the Uniwigs discount code?

Use code NEVEEN at checkout on the Uniwigs website for 15% off your entire order. No minimum spend, no expiry date, and it works on repeat orders.

What is a good starter hair topper for hair loss?

For a first hair topper, look for something from a reputable brand with a clear returns policy. The Uniwigs Courtney is often mentioned as a more accessible starting point. Measure your hair loss area first, and check color ring samples if available before ordering.
