Five products turned up from YesStyle in one order. Three were about growing hair, one was a face serum, and one was about flakes.
That’s the one I’m starting with. I’ve had seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp for years (it’s the reason I wrote a whole post on wearing a topper with seb derm), and since I shaved my head in July there’s nowhere for it to hide. The Lilyeve Scalp:Turn Cica PDRN Brush Ampoule was always going first.
Before any of it went on my head, though, I did what I do with everything now. I read the ingredient list. Then I read it again on the brand’s own site, and that’s where it got interesting, because the list on lilyeve’s site and the list on most of the shops selling it don’t match.
This is part review, part ingredient check, after a full month of using it. Short version: it’s been working well for my seb derm, and I love the applicator.
At a glance
After a month on a seb derm scalp, I give the Lilyeve Scalp:Turn 4.5 out of 5. It has helped my flakes and itching, but I have androgenic alopecia and it has done nothing for my hair growth. It is a 100ml leave-in scalp serum from Korea with a built-in brush, meant to go on towel-dried hair twice a day with no rinsing. For seborrheic dermatitis, the ingredients doing the work are salicylic acid and climbazole. What is the Lilyeve Scalp:Turn Cica PDRN Brush Ampoule?
It comes in a soft 100ml squeeze tube with a brush built into the top. You twist the top to open it, squeeze the serum onto your scalp, brush it through, then twist again to lock it. I love this applicator. Makes it so easy to apply. The brand says the lock stops it leaking, so don’t skip that last twist if it lives in a bag.
How to use it, and whether you rinse it out
No rinsing with this one. The box says you can put it on dry hair, but it works best on freshly washed, towel-dried hair, and lilyeve say twice a day, morning and night. They made it for oily, flaky scalps that itch, and in Korea they sell it as a hair loss product too. On lilyeve’s US site it goes by Scalpturn Cica PDRN Brush Serum, all one word, but it’s the same tube.
If you’ve read the box and got confused, you’re not alone. The How to Use line mentions rinsing it out, but the directions and tips printed underneath say nothing about rinsing, and YesStyle and Ulta both describe it as a leave-in. It’s a leave-in, and that’s how I use it.
Lilyeve ran their own two-week test when it launched in Korea. They reported flakes looking 50% better, 39% fewer flakes, itching down 50%, oil down 46% and scalp odor down 88%. Those are the brand’s numbers from their own test, and I’d read them that way.
Lilyeve Scalp:Turn ingredients for dandruff and seb derm
Seb derm is tied up with a yeast called Malassezia that lives on most people’s skin. On anything going onto a seb derm scalp, the first thing I look for is an ingredient that goes after that yeast.
Here it’s climbazole. It’s an antifungal used in anti-dandruff treatments, and it’s the main reason this serum ended up in my seb derm pile. Salicylic acid sits right next to it on the list, loosening flakes and build-up so they wash away, which is the part you notice first when your scalp is thick with it.
The cold comes from menthol. Lilyeve say it drops the temperature on your scalp by up to 11°C straight after it goes on.
For the hair loss side there’s caffeine, and there’s the PDRN, listed as hydrolyzed DNA. Lilyeve’s own site puts it at 100ppb. That’s parts per billion, a tiny amount, so the flake work sits with the antifungals.
One for the ingredient nerds. The name says cica, so I went looking for centella asiatica and couldn’t find it on any version of the list I checked. Heartleaf is there (houttuynia cordata, if you’re reading the box), along with a long run of herbs like chamomile and rosemary.
Is Lilyeve Scalp:Turn fungal acne safe?
Mostly, with one real flag. PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil is fourth on the list. It helps everything mix into the water, and because it comes from castor oil, SkinSort and Folliculitis Scout both flag it. Fourth is high up, so it’s more than a trace.
Two others are worth a second look. Trideceth-10 is a fatty alcohol ether, a different thing from the fatty acids that yeast eats, and SkinSort’s fungal acne checker doesn’t flag it. SkinSort flags some ferments as a precaution, but the lactobacillus ferment here sits right near the end of the list. Neither worries me much.
There’s eucalyptus oil on there too. It’s an essential oil, there for scent, and it’s carrier oils that feed the yeast.
If you want to run the list yourself, paste it into my fungal acne and rosacea ingredient checker. Where I land: if castor-derived ingredients have set you off before, patch test a small area first. If they haven’t, the antifungal line-up is the bigger story.
Does Lilyeve Scalp:Turn contain piroctone olamine? It depends which list you read
Most shops selling it, Ulta and Holiholic among them, list piroctone olamine straight after climbazole. That would make it a second antifungal, and its the same active that’s in the Philip Kingsley scalp toner I use for my seb derm.
Lilyeve’s own site doesn’t list it. Neither does YesStyle. Those two also show ashwagandha where Ulta, Holiholic and most other shops I checked show neem, and a couple of the smaller extracts swap around too. So either there are two versions of this serum out there, or one set of listings is out of date, and I can’t settle that from a laptop.
I lost the box for a while (of course I did), then found it again. Mine came from YesStyle, and the list printed on it has piroctone olamine right after climbazole, with neem where the brand site says ashwagandha. So my bottle is the version with both antifungals, even though YesStyle’s own listing shows the other one.
If yours doesn’t list it, climbazole still covers the antifungal side on its own.
My Lilyeve Scalp:Turn review after a month
A full month in, it’s been working well for my seb derm. Every time it goes on it feels cooling, and I’ve noticed a difference with both the flakes and the itching.
Right now I’m in wigs most days while my hair grows back out, and once it has, I’ll go back to my hair toppers. After a long day of wig wear? This feels so cool and fresh going on my scalp. Honestly, that’s been a nice little bonus.
Hair growth is where I’ve seen nothing. I have androgenic alopecia, which is a whole other thing to flakes, so your mileage may vary there.
Is it perfect on paper? Not quite. It isn’t entirely fungal acne safe because of that castor oil ingredient, and that’s the only reason it doesn’t get full marks from me. My scalp seems to enjoy it anyway.
