A box turned up from Dossier a couple of weeks back with three little bottles inside, Floral Peony, Floral Jasmine and Powdery Peach, and my first honest thought was “oh no, three perfumes I’m actually going to have to wear properly instead of just spritzing my wrist once and getting on with my day.” I went into this a bit sceptical of the whole inspired-by perfume thing generally. I’ve sniffed a fair few over the years that all landed in the same vague “floral candle” territory and called it a day.
So instead of the usual sniff-and-judge, I actually wore each one properly, one at a time, full days, different settings, because that’s the only fair way to test how long something lasts and how far it travels.

Floral Peony (Inspired by Chloe’s Chloe)
Scent notes:
- Top: peony, lychee, lily
- Middle: rose, magnolia, freesia
- Base: musk, cedarwood, honey
This is the safest of the three, in the nicest possible way. Soft, pretty, the one I’d hand to someone who says they “don’t really wear perfume”, because it’s inoffensive without being boring. On me it settled into a soft rosy peony inside twenty minutes and then just stayed there, close to skin, arm’s length at absolute best. Nothing that filled a room. Around the five or six hour mark I was leaning into my own wrist to find it, so if you top up through the day anyway this won’t bother you. If you want something still going at 6pm off one morning spray, it isn’t this one.
Floral Peony: 4/5
Pros:
- Pretty, traditional rose and peony floral that’s easy to wear
- Soft enough for the office or daytime without feeling like you’re wearing nothing
- A good entry point if you’re nervous about inspired-by perfumes in general
Cons:
- Fades to a skin scent faster than I’d like
- A bit “safe”, doesn’t stand out much from the crowd of similar rose-peony florals already out there
Floral Jasmine (Inspired by Tom Ford’s Jasmin Rouge)
Scent notes:
- Top: neroli, cardamom, bergamot, black pepper
- Middle: jasmine sambac, ylang-ylang, broom flower
- Base: labdanum, clary sage, vanilla
Right, this is the awkward one, because performance-wise it’s the strongest bottle in the box. Seven to eight hours on my skin, longer than either of the others, and people were picking it up from across a room rather than just when they hugged me. On paper that’s a five star fragrance. I just didn’t love wearing it. It’s deep, heady, spicy jasmine, the kind that leans mature and intense, and that isn’t my lane. I go for lighter florals and this felt like it was wearing me rather than the other way round. Nothing wrong with how it’s made. It’s a taste thing, that’s all.
Floral Jasmine: 3/5
Pros:
- Longest lasting of the three by a clear margin
- Strongest projection, genuinely noticeable across a room
- Well made if you’re specifically after a deep jasmine
Cons:
- Too intense and mature for my personal taste
- Not an easy “wear it anywhere without thinking” scent the way the other two are
- Could read as a lot for daytime or office wear
Powdery Peach (Inspired by Jimmy Choo’s I Want Choo)
Scent notes:
- Top: peach, tangerine, blackcurrant
- Middle: white flowers, jasmine
- Base: vanilla, benzoin, patchouli
This is the one. Warm and fruity but grown up with it, despite a name that had me half expecting my nan’s bathroom. It does not smell like my nan’s bathroom, I promise. The peach and tangerine up top is juicy without going sticky, then it settles into a soft powdery vanilla. Sensual, not dated, which the name really doesn’t prepare you for. Six to eight hours on me, strongest projection of the three, and it hangs about on my clothes afterwards. That was the bit that surprised me. It’s what I’ve reached for most since testing and what I’d tell a friend to grab first if they only wanted one.
Powdery Peach: 4.5/5
Pros:
- Best longevity and projection of the three
- Warm, fruity gourmand that reads sensual and grown up rather than sickly sweet
- Impressive performance for the price
Cons:
- Currently out of stock on the UK site as of writing, so you may need to join the waitlist
- The fruitier profile won’t suit anyone wanting something lighter or more classically floral
So which one should you actually buy
Powdery Peach, then Floral Peony, then Floral Jasmine. That’s my order, based on how they performed and how I actually felt wearing them.
But scent is personal in a way skincare and hair stuff really isn’t, and I’d rather say that plainly than have you buy something on my say-so and hate it. My skin chemistry isn’t yours. What I grew up smelling isn’t what you grew up smelling. Floral Jasmine came last on my list and it was still the best performing bottle in the box, which tells you exactly how much my ranking should count for if heady jasmine is your thing. Go and smell it.

Is Dossier perfume legit?
Yes. Dossier is a real fragrance brand with its own UK site at trydossier.co.uk, and it’s now stocked in participating Boots stores, which is about as legit as it gets. All three bottles I was sent are proper eau de parfum, and two of the three lasted six hours or more on my skin. Worth saying though, these came to me as PR samples, so I can’t tell you anything about their delivery or returns from experience.
Which Dossier perfume is best?
Of the three I tested, Powdery Peach. Six to eight hours on me, the strongest projection of the lot, and it’s the one I’ve kept reaching for since. Floral Peony comes second and Floral Jasmine third, but that order is about my taste rather than quality. Jasmine was the best performing bottle in the box.
Are Dossier perfumes dupes of designer fragrances?
Dossier calls them ‘inspired by’ rather than dupes, and they name the fragrance behind each one. The three I tested are their takes on Chloe’s Chloe (Floral Peony), Tom Ford’s Jasmin Rouge (Floral Jasmine) and Jimmy Choo’s I Want Choo (Powdery Peach). I haven’t smelled the originals side by side with these, so I can’t tell you how close they get. What I can tell you is how they perform on their own, which is what the ratings above are.
How long does Dossier perfume last?
Floral Jasmine and Powdery Peach both held up longest on my skin, roughly six to eight hours, with the strongest projection of the three. Floral Peony was the softest and shortest wearing, closer to five to six hours before fading into a skin scent.

Is Dossier Floral Jasmine worth buying?
