Okay so the Clarins advent calendars were meant to land on 3 September, and Clarins have now pushed that back because of a delivery problem. There’s no new date yet. What I do have is both full contents lists, sitting in front of me, door by door.
There are two of them this year, a 12 day and a 24 day, and neither one has been anywhere near my bathroom yet, so don’t expect me to tell you how the Cryo-Flash mask feels on your face. What I have got is both contents lists straight from Clarins, door by door, with the prices attached. And a fairly strong opinion about which one I’d pick.
Clarins isn’t new to me, by the way, even if the working with them part is. I’ve been buying their body stuff for years, the oils and the lotions mostly, and I used to go to the Clarins spa in the Bullring in Birmingham all the time before it closed down. Their lip products are lovely too. So I’m not reading these lists cold. I just haven’t had my hands on every single thing in them.

Clarins are launching two advent calendars this year. The original on sale date of 3 September has been delayed and a new one has not been given yet. The 12 Day Advent Calendar is £98 with contents Clarins values at £173.83 and three full size products. The 24 Day Advent Calendar is £165 with contents valued at £272.97 and four full size products. The 12 Day Advent Calendar, £98
Twelve doors, £98, and Clarins put the value of what’s inside at £173.83. Three of those doors are full size: the Hydra-Essentiel Cream 30ml, the Lip Perfector in 01 Rose Shimmer, and the Hydra-Essentiel Lip Balm.
Two of the twelve doors are full size lip products. That is a lot of lip in one box and I’m not complaining.

Its the one my eye keeps going back to. Twelve doors sounds modest until you see the sizes attached to them, and the little run at the end there, hand cream and body lotion and a lip balm, is the boring useful stuff I always end up buying anyway.
The 24 Day Advent Calendar, £165
Twenty four doors at £165, and Clarins put the contents at £272.97. Four of them are full size. This one covers a lot more ground than its little sister, cleansing and toning and face and body and hands, with a bit of makeup thrown in.
The full sizes are the Hydra-Essentiel Cream 30ml, the Hydra-Essentiel Lip Balm 15ml, the Wonder Volume XXL Mascara 8ml and the Lip Comfort Oil in 03 Cherry.

Six of those doors are body care, which is the bit I got excited about, because Clarins body is exactly what I know them best for. The Tonic Treatment Oil, the Exfoliating Body Scrub, Renew-Plus Body Serum, the Body Firming Cream, the bath and shower concentrate and the Moisture Rich lotion. That is a decent run at their body range in one box, and a very easy way to find out which of them you’d buy again.
The other thing I noticed: there are four different Hydra-Essentiel products in here. Cream, night cream, cream-mask, lip balm. So if your skin is thirsty, there’s enough of it in there to actually see how you get on.
Which one I would pick
The 12 day, and I knew that about four seconds into reading the list. Everything in it is something I would use. The cream, the lip balm, the Rose Shimmer Lip Perfector, the hand cream. Nothing in there is going to sit at the back of a drawer looking at me reproachfully.
But if you already know Clarins body care agrees with you, the 24 is the fuller, more generous box and I would be very happy to be given it. Both calendars have the Hydra-Essentiel Cream in full size, so you get that one either way.
Neither is buyable yet, so there’s nothing to rush for. Clarins have delayed the launch over a delivery issue and I don’t have a new date. When I get one it goes at the top of this page.
